Dear Waukegan Youth Baseball Family,

On behalf of the Waukegan Youth Baseball Board, we are excited about the upcoming baseball season for all age groups. While still maintaining our recreational ball program, we are now entering our third year of our travel All-Stars teams and the addition of new age levels—an achievement that marks a major milestone for our organization. Prior to its revival, the travel program had long since been dismantled. We are proud of what we have built, and as we continue to grow and learn, we look forward to moving ahead with even more baseball opportunities for our Waukegan players.

We are challenging current athletes in basketball, football, soccer (just to name a few) to step up and join our baseball program at WYB. Statistics show that student-athletes have a 29% greater chance of receiving additional collegiate scholarships by participating in team sports. If you have a friend, nudge them into taking our baseball challenge—who knows where it could lead? Several Major League Baseball players began their athletic journeys in other sports. Aaron Judge played football before switching to baseball, and Cubs Hall-of-Famer Fergie Jenkins was once a basketball player with the Harlem Globetrotters before being drafted into baseball. Spread the word—even if

baseball starts as a conditioning sport, it may become the sport that truly calls to them.

This year, we are also committed to working more closely with our local schools to better prepare our student-athletes. Our goal is to ensure that when they reach the high school level, they do so as confident and experienced players.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the volunteers who have helped make Waukegan Youth Baseball what it is today and who continue to build our baseball legacy—past, present, and future.
